Love Letter to Black Sheep and Chain Breakers

To my clients doing trauma work, repairing childhood wounds, and breaking cycles that have never been broken before in their family (like the first man to live at home with their children, the first husband to not cheat on their wife, the first dad to learn how to do diapers, the first person to speak honestly and openly about the wounds of patriarchy, etc): I am proud.

Your sweat equity is for your freedom, full stop.

But it is also for every little person in your life to see the work you are doing and to believe that there are adults who hate child abuse, adults who stand up to bullies, and adults who tell the truth, even if they have to climb through some emotional barbed wire to get there.  You have opened a way for them to come and follow you.  You might be a black sheep for doing it, but this work is worth it and I’m so proud of you.

I hope that you get boring days ahead with your people and your favorite things (I’m imagining a farm, a cup of coffee, and the sound of birds, but enter your own beauty here).  I hope you bask in the space you’ve worked so hard for.  I am glad I got to hand you some clippers, a chainsaw, or a pen and pencil or whatever it was that you needed to get free.

You’re an amazing creature.  Never forget it.
