Sheltering in Place: Resources for Parents

I went on a walk with my husband to get out of the house and stretch our legs. We saw a dad with two young kids under five years old. They were blowing bubbles together and looking at the flowers on their street while remaining at a safe distance from everyone. I had that feeling I have had several times since our March 13th announcement that California schools would close: how do parents of preschoolers do it?!

I loved this article for parents of preschoolers. It reminded me of something I say to many of my clients who are in the thick of parenting and feeling overwhelmed: self care is an important part of staying sane as a family. The article is holistic and provides great ideas for routines and yet remains quick and easy to read. If you’re feeling lost as a parent with toddlers or preschoolers at home it is worth your five minutes.

If you are like me you have had this thought since you’ve been sheltering in place: I didn’t ask for this. That might be related to parenting or just the pandemic in general. I think it’s helpful for little kids and adults and every one in between to have space to process that part of this crisis: how we respond to the unexpected and what we are needing in order to cope through this crisis time (which might be different than typical times).

I am sending you all virtual hugs and also hope if you are one of those parents who is feeling overwhelmed, I encourage you to reach out to me or another professional counselor for help, support, and guidance during this unique time.

All of my clients are online at this time and I am currently taking new clients. Email me through my contact page.
